POSITION OVERVIEW
The Digital Accessibility Assistance Specialist at the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is responsible for ensuring that all web content meets ADA Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards. This role involves evaluating and reviewing CDPH web content, providing technical assistance to web contributors, and monitoring web submissions for accessibility and technical accuracy.
Detailed Responsibilities:
Accessibility Evaluation and Review
Evaluate and review CDPH web content to ensure compliance with ADA Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.
Optionally, conduct user testing on web data dashboards, applications, portals, and videos to assess accessibility.
Education and Technical Assistance
Educate and provide technical assistance to CDPH Web Contributors, ensuring documents are designed and remediated in an accessible format that adheres to department standards before publication.
Develop and deliver training sessions or workshops on accessibility best practices and tools.
Daily Monitoring and Review
Monitor and review the Web Workflow Task List and CommsWeb inbox submissions to ensure content is up-to-date, accurate, and free from technical issues.Respond to web staff requests for publishing new information on the CDPH website, ensuring all content meets accessibility standards.
Documentation and Compliance
Follow and enforce the use of the Document Accessibility Checklist and Web Style and Accessibility Guidelines.
Maintain accurate records of accessibility evaluations and remediation activities.
Performance Tracking
Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track the success and effectiveness of business development initiatives, providing regular reports and insights to senior management.
Continuous Improvement
Drive a culture of continuous improvement within the business development team, encouraging innovation, creativity, and learning to stay ahead of market trends and competitive pressures.
