Vice President, Political and Pay for Performance (R&D)

Scripps Company is on the hunt for a Vice President, Political and Pay for Performance, based in Washington, D.C. In this pivotal role, you'll be at the forefront of our political advertising efforts, crafting innovative strategies, securing significant ad buys, and forging strong relationships with political and national clients, consultants, and agencies. Reporting directly to the Chief Revenue Officer, you will manage a dedicated team of professionals, guiding them to excellence in a fast-paced and ever-evolving industry.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive sales strategy for political and pay for performance advertising at the local and national levels across all linear and CTV platforms.
Identify new revenue opportunities, including emerging political trends, advocacy groups, and issue-based advertising.
Provide guidance and oversight for all political advertising efforts across the organization, including TV, digital, and emerging platforms.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with political candidates, campaign managers, political parties, PACs, consultants, and media buying agencies.
Drive significant revenue growth by securing major political ad buys, sponsorships, and endorsements.
Lead high-level negotiations and sales presentations, working closely with clients to craft tailored political ad packages that meet their objectives.
Anticipate and forecast changes in the political and core revenue markets for local station, networks and connected TV.
Direct and lead the growth of changing business rules as it pertains to client adoption of “pay-for-performance” at both the local and network level.
Manage and mentor a team of political sales executives and account managers, ensuring that targets are met and that team members are supported in their professional growth.
Foster a high-performance sales culture, providing regular training and development to keep the team current on political advertising trends and best practices.
Partner with internal departments including marketing, legal, operations, and programming to ensure seamless execution of political and Pay for Performance ad campaigns.
Work with analytics teams to understand ad performance, audience data, and market trends to refine sales strategies and maximize results.
Stay current with all relevant political advertising regulations, including FCC rules and federal/state campaign finance laws, ensuring that all campaigns comply with legal requirements.
Work closely with legal and compliance teams to ensure proper documentation and adherence to regulations for political ads.
Stay abreast of local, regional, and national political developments to forecast and capitalize on political ad opportunities.
Provide regular performance reports and updates to the executive team regarding political sales performance, market trends, and key opportunities.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
BS/BA in related discipline preferred or equivalent years of experience
Generally, 10+ years of experience in related field preferred
Prior managerial experience preferred
Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company required insurance limits
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
Expert knowledge of all facets of broadcast and digital media platform sales and marketing
Strong business acumen especially regarding advertising businesses and trends
Ability to forecast sales pipeline
Financial acumen to produce annual budgets, and manage expenses as they relate to National Sales
Strong negotiation skills
Excellent leadership skills
Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills and ability to promote and sell concepts to representatives, agencies and customers
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent analytical skills
Proficient in Wide Orbit Traffic and Wide Orbit Network
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
Proficient in face-to-face sales, calling on national accounts and agencies
Must have existing relationships with national advertisers and their agencies
