Kiln Fireman (Manufacturing)
Maintaining the overall operation of kilns and dryers during assigned shift
Use computer software to check and maintain kiln and dryer temperatures.
Keep hourly records of kiln and dryer temps and track kiln car movement using kiln description cards.
Use transfer car to move kiln cars safely from holding room to dryers and dryers to kiln.
Maintain proper grog levels in kiln and empty grog out of exit end each shift.
Checking cars going into the charge end and discharge end
Cleaning up discharge end and east hallway
Contact maintenance and supervisor immediately when any issues or breakdowns occur.
Be willing and able to perform any additional task required by supervisor and/or plant leadership.
As a Fireman:
A successful record of reporting to work on time as scheduled is a must.
A strong safety focus is a must for this position.
Adjust kiln and dryer temperatures in automatic operation and in manual operation when running different brick profiles and when outside air temperatures affect brick quality.
Daily walkthrough checking dryers and kilns to include burners, fans and belts, and greasing fan bearings.
Check burners using optical temperature gun, document daily gas usage, keep record of total tonnage passing through kilns and
High school or equivalent required
Able to perform various form of physical labor (i.e. lifting 50 lbs./standing)
Committed to working in a zero-harm workplace.
Have a good mechanical aptitude.
Must be mathematically inclined.
Must be a team player.
Able to work flexible hours when needed.
Must be flexible and responsible.
Must be able to work in cold and hot climates as well as dusty and dirty environments.

Must be able to follow all safety protocol at all times, to include PPE, forklift, ergonomics, lifting and bending safety.

Work is performed primarily in a standard manufacturing setting.
Production facilities are not climate controlled, and work is outdoors and indoors in all types of weather conditions and work environments.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand for extended lengths of time (i.e. flagging operations), walk, sit for extended lengths of time (i.e. operating equipment), drive, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, grasp, hold, and manipulate tools; talk and hear. The employee is routinely required to climb (i.e. ladders and stairs) and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or stand on tip toes for extended lengths of time, and must routinely lift and/or carry up to 75 pounds alone, and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus with or without ocular aids. The employee must be able to work in variable temperatures and weather conditions and near traffic with varying noise levels and with varying types of equipment and vehicles. The employee must have the ability to work around and tolerate heat and dust.
While performing the duties of this job the incumbent is regularly exposed to outside elements of wet and/or humid conditions, rain, and heat; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles. Requires the ability to work outdoors in all weather. The incumbent may occasionally work with electrical devices and be exposed to vibrations and steady level of loud noises.
