Director of Laboratory Services (FT - Days) (Project Management)
Participates in PI and maintains appropriate quality control programs. Analyzes data obtained from PI studies and makes changes in processes if needed.Recommends enough qualified and competent persons to provide service. Prepares work schedules, days off, holidays and vacation schedule and sees coverage is adequate for staffed hours and on-call time.Coordinates and documents required annual employee education, new hire orientation, training, and competency assessment.Establishes lines of authority and responsibility for his/her subordinates. Handles and resolves all disciplinary problems that arise within the department, uses correct forms, and follows established progressive discipline guidelines.Sees that workflow through the department is handled in an efficient manner. Recommends space and other resources needs by the department. Maintains the equipment in good working order, makes necessary arrangements for equipment repair; maintains records of maintenance.Performs bench work when needed to meet workflow requirements.Consults with the Ancillary Director and establishes long and short-term goals for the department and integrates the departments and its services into the organizations primary mission.Participates in hospital wide teams to strengthen the quality of patient care and organizational function. Works with other departments to resolve problems and/or conflicts that may arise. Coordinates and integrates services within the department and with other depts. Seeks current information regarding regulatory issues. Networks with other laboratory professionals. Holds departmental meetings to discuss problems, new equipment, procedures, etc.Ensures that proper procedures are written, standardized, and reviewed yearly for all departmental activities; keeps procedures current with standard of laboratory practice. Operates department with budget guidelines, monthly and annually. Assist with development of the annual laboratory budget and keeping charge master current. Seeks to keep cost per test below the lowest reimbursement for each test. Maintains an even flow of supplies and consumables.Guide proper use and flow of test results on culture and sensitivities, educate staff on culture collection and assist pharmacist in data collection on antibiograms. Will participate in antibiotic stewardship committee as requested and needed.Participates in selecting outside sources for needed services. Responds to all emergencies and disasters within the organization. Builds a positive work environment by guiding employees to support the mission of the hospital, providing developmental opportunities and encourage teamwork. Identifies problems and offers constructive suggestions for solutions. Seeks to reduce work-related stress for laboratory staff.
