ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The University of South Florida Police Department (USFPD) is a full service law enforcement agency dedicated to providing a safe environment for and in partnership with the community, while remaining committed to assisting with personal and professional development of department members, and to the principle of being community minded and service driven.
USFPD is organized into various bureaus, divisions, sections, squads, and units. The department is led by a command staff comprised of sworn and non-sworn members of the rank of lieutenant and higher, a communications and records manager, all of whom report to the assistant chief of police through an established chain-of-command.
The Operations Bureau is commanded by a captain who oversees the Patrol Section which is commanded by a lieutenant. The Patrol Division is further broken down into four patrol squads and one Community Service Officer (CSO) squad which is supervised by two non-sworn supervisors.
The Special Operations Division is commanded by a captain who oversees Special Operations/Events and Criminal Investigations Sections; both of which are led by a sergeant. The Administration Bureau is also commanded by a captain who oversees the Support Services and Communications & Records Divisions. Support Services is led by a sergeant and includes the Professional Standards and Information Technology Sections. The accreditation, training and background investigation units fall within the Professional Standards Section which is managed by a sergeant. The Communications & Records Division reports to a non-sworn manager.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for directing/managing the Community Service Officer (CSO) program's daily operations and ensuring services align with police department's objectives and directives. This position supervises a squad of community service officers, and contract employees. The position oversees scheduling, property/evidence, account management and ensures an overall positive/productive workforce within the CSO program. This position reports directly to a Operations Bureau Captain.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires a valid Driver's License.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides essential duties to include support to law enforcement officers; Coordinates and supervises daily activities of the Community Service Officers; Assist with crime prevention, community engagement and community outreach; Assist in traffic control, found property recovery, alarm response, medical emergencies, stuck elevator response and crime scene security; Keeps open communication with Police Dispatch and Police Command Staff.
Provide administrative support; Coordinate employee work schedules to provide adequate coverage; Assist in agency hiring process for new CSO applicants, reviewing applications, in-person interviews and hiring recommendations; approve time sheets; Check completed reports by CSO?s; Complete vehicle and golf cart maintenance requests.
Provides initial and annual training as required by the department; Primary CSO trainer and evaluator; identify any additional relevant training.
Reviews all related policy and procedures; Makes operational recommendations and implements approved changes in procedures; Communicates with operational staff and provides additional training as needed; Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a high school diploma and three years dispatching, security, or law enforcement experience; or, Associate's degree and one year dispatching, security, or law enforcement experience; or, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Positions supervising Communications personnel must possess a current Department of Health 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator License or be able to obtain one within six months of hire.
PREFERRED:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree, 3 years relevant job experience, prior law enforcement experience, and at least 1 year security personnel management experience; strong computer and communication skills.
