WHEELMAN MATE (Transportation)
This position is located in New Orleans, LA.
Please apply directly through https://www.enbisso.com/careers/. Applications sent through online job boards will not be accepted. The Wheelman is responsible for safely and efficiently navigating vessels to complete assigned customer jobs during an assigned watch.
A person in this role will be expected to:
Prioritize safety above all else, including being knowledgeable of and accurately following company policies and procedures
Cooperatively and professionally follow orders from vessel Captain/Master (and his/her relief)
Create a positive work environment for all crew members onboard the vessel
Communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally with vessel crew, operations teams, and corporate office team
Effectively work with vessel crew to complete customer jobs in a timely and efficient manner
Competently perform all duties as the officer in charge of a navigational watch for 12 hours
Navigate the vessel safely and ensure the safety of crew members during assigned watch
Receive customer jobs from dispatch and work closely with dispatchers, pilots, and vessel crew to ensure jobs are completed safely and timely, working to meet and exceed customer expectations
Accurately and continuously communicating with management and relevant personnel regarding vessel performance, locations, ETAs, weather conditions, and other information specific to the vessel, route, and crew during assigned watch
Support crew members in properly performing job duties, providing feedback to the Captain as needed
Carry out duties as assigned under the company Safety Management System (SMS)
Demonstrate exemplary behaviors related to company policies and procedures and hold vessel crew accountable to these policies and procedures
Learn and be accountable to company ISM and SMS responsibilities within 6 months of assuming position
A person in this role can expect to complete tasks similar to the following:
Operational Duties
Navigate the vessel safely at all times
Receive incoming jobs and work to complete customer jobs in a safe and timely manner
Proactively manage time, especially in consideration of reporting, departures, and arrivals
Complete required reporting and logs
Provide assignments and directions to vessel crew during watch
Maintenance Duties
Utilizing various hand tools to maintain the vessel accordingly
Housekeeping Duties
Assist in ensuring the vessel housekeeping duties are regularly performed
Assist with loading and unloading, provisions, supplies and equipment
Safety & Compliance Duties
Reporting any hazardous or unsafe condition to the Port Captain or other relevant member of management and making "on-the-spot" corrections when capable.
Ensure vessel is operating in conformance with safety standards and maritime regulations
Ensure prompt and accurate reporting of all equipment failures, illnesses, incidents, accidents and damages as per company SMS
Report all accidents resulting in actual or possible damage, including "near misses,", other vessels or fixed objects, such as bridges, docks, buoys, and spills or pollution to the Captain.
To be successful in this role, an applicant should have:
Previous experience as a vessel crew member
PREFERRED: Previous experience as a Master or Mate operating on towing vessels; maritime academy graduate
