Position Summary:
The Department of World Languages at the University of South Florida invites applications for a nine-month full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Russian language, literature, and the cultures of the Russian-speaking world to begin August 7, 2025.
We are looking for a broadly interdisciplinary Russian scholar. Candidates whose research is transnational and considers Russophone diasporas or non-Russian cultural communities in Latin America, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, or Eurasia are especially welcome.
The area of specialization is open, and both contemporary and historical topics will be considered. We welcome candidates in language and literature as well as film and media studies, music and sound studies, and other humanities fields. Salary is negotiable.
Duties:
Teach undergraduate courses at all levels
Take on a leadership role in maintaining and building the existing Russian program, which includes a concentration within the Major in World Languages & Cultures and a Russian Studies Minor.
Teach undergraduate courses at all levels (World Languages does not offer a graduate degree in Russian, but the position can involve active engagement with other USF graduate programs, including graduate instruction through cross-listing).
Conduct, present, and publish research and engage in other professional activities.
Participate actively in program management as well as department, college, and university governance.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctoral degree from an accredited institution in Russian studies or a closely related field by August 7, 2025. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor.
Native or near-native competency in Russian
Excellent communication skills in English
Experience teaching Russian language
Evidence of active research and scholarship
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching upper-level Russian language courses
Experience developing and teaching courses in translation
Ability to work cooperatively with the USF Institute for Russian, European and Eurasian Studies
