Maintenance - Water Reclamation Facility (Transportation)
Essential Duties
Use mechanical procedures and/or analytical reasoning to disassemble, inspect, repair and reassemble all types of wastewater treatment equipment and/or accessory machinery. Perform complex equipment overhauls, repairs and installation projects. Perform equipment inspections, analyze and troubleshoot equipment problems and recommend/implement repair methods and solutions. Cut, fit, thread, weld and install piping and tubing systems. Perform routine building maintenance tasks such as replacing windows, patching concrete, repairing plumbing and incidental painting and welding. Lubricate, repack and service pumps, valves and other equipment. Perform basic electrical tasks such as unwiring low voltage motors and power equipment. Assist in maintaining accurate record of all work orders, maintenance projects and preventative maintenance. Direct and instruct Utility staff as needed. Serves as backup to the Lead Maintenance in his/her absence. Perform all other tasks as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude by scoring 53 or better on the Bennett Mechanical Comprehension Test Form S or T. (No more than 15 wrong on a 68 question test with 60 minutes to complete). Effective workplace skills as demonstrated through WorkKeys assessments (Workplace Documents 5, Applied Math 5, Graphic Literacy 5, Workplace Observation 4). Working knowledge of tools, methods and materials used in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and related maintenance trades. Working knowledge and skill in the use of tools, equipment, material and methods used in maintenance and repair of pumps, valves, compressed air systems and other equipment commonly used in wastewater treatment. Ability to understand and follow specific written and oral instructions. Ability to carry out assignments with limited supervision. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and other staff. Valid Michigan Drivers License.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Ability to lift, pull, push, and carry 50 pounds. Ability to work in confined spaces and at elevated heights. Work includes occasional exposure to fumes, odors, dust, dirt and/or contact with chemicals or toxins. Work includes exposure to hazards associated with electrical, mechanical and/or power equipment.
